Consequences versus Results

One major thing that my EFT Practitioner (the GREAT Cathleen Campbell of In Living Harmony) has me looking at is the words that I choose to use and how they affect my life in the here and now. But more importantly is how they make me FEEL when I use them.   One word that I have been contemplating is consequences.

When I think of this word there is a heaviness that comes over me that feels like I have done something wrong that cannot be fixed and even worse I am stuck with the outcome.  It feels as if there is nothing I can do to fix it.

I looked up this word in Dictionary.com and this was the first definition:

"the effect, result, or outcome of something occurring earlier: The accident was the consequence of reckless driving."

The definition itself I have no reaction to but how it is used in a sentence seems to imply what I was feeling.  That because of a mistake or poor choice I made, I must suffer the consequences.  Now I know that doesn't seem logical but I am not dealing with logic.  I am dealing with emotions and feelings and that is the feeling I get when I think of my own personal "consequences".

Being that I am working with Cathleen and words, I immediately went to a word that meant the same thing but didn't FEEL the same way.  Result. The definition for result on Dictionary.com is:

"to spring, arise, or proceed as a consequence of actions, circumstances, premises, etc.; be the outcome."

Which essentially means the same thing as consequence.  In fact if you go back and re-read the two definitions again you will see that consequence has result in it and result has consequence in it.  Interesting!  There may just be some wisdom to choosing our words more carefully (well actually I did know that but now I am really seeing and feeling it).  From now on I want results coming from my choices and actions not consequences.  I am going to ask myself -"What are my results and how do I feel about them?", not tell myself "These are the consequences of my actions and I basically have to suffer through them."

What words are weighing you down and keeping you stuck?  Say them to yourself - see how you feel and then look for a replacement if they are weighing you down. If they make you feel good then use them more often :).
